DROWNING
She was drowning
With her tears forming furrows on her face
As she slid down leaning on the brick wall
Her heart shattered
Broken to a million pieces
As every memory they had ran through her mind
Like a film set
She was only fifteen when they met
her dimples were still deep into her baby cheeks
He was eighteen then
His voice had suddenly changed
Sounding like a jukebox
Playing mellow country music
And now she wallowed in a puddle of misery
Lost, confused and petrified
Her soul was torn beyond repair
And after eternity, it felt like just yesterday
And now they stood separated by a wall of insecurity
For she had blossomed into a flower
That every passing man wanted to pick
He shed a tear
A manly tear
A painful flow of emotion
They had told him that if it was meant to, it would be
So he let go off his beautiful butterfly
Hoping that it would fly back into his arms again
Someday
For now, he was drowning.
