HER VOICE

Image
Her voice is a thunderstorm And a calm evening breeze All at the same damn time Her voice is a surprise gift Wrapped in shiny velvet Bound in a ribbon of silky joy Her voice is a beautiful song The kind you would have on replay And still play it on your wedding day Her voice is a sci-fi movie Full of intrigue and awe And requires no salted popcorn to be beautiful Her voice is a bright Sunday morning Filled with enthusiasm and love And the joy of a bright new day Her voice is an echo of paradise With all its splendour Utopic and surreal Her voice is the perfect potrait Drawn in pencil on paper With its edges perfect to fault Her voice is a river  Flowing down stream One that i want to swim in Her voice is Her voice Her.

THE AUGUST HOUSE

Image
The brick colossus That stands on parliament square A converted mental A drug lord's haven School of experienced cheats The hangout joint for an ignorant literati With backdoor qualifications They coined it parliament Chronic sleep inpatients A tsetse fly sanctuary The backbencher A seasoned rumor-monger Backbiting being the main agenda The epicenter of egoistic tendencies Making our law center A toothless bulldog Stuck in the status quo Complacent with anonymity Draining the nation's coffers Residing in glass-plated mansions With their hypocritical smiles Paris-tailored customized suits Italian alligator shoes Not forgetting their Louis Vuitton briefs While the man on the street Lives from hand to mouth They swim in wine and choose where to dine

STUCK IN THE MOMENT

Image
I lost her forever So I thought Maybe I would never Never see her again Or clasp her tender arms again Gaze at her almond visage Just for the joy it brings For gone were the moments Glorious, glamorous moments When our lips embraced To the witness of the trees Under the purple veil of sunset To the orchestra of sleepy swallows Their melodious tunes in the background Those precious seconds we stood Not wavered by the haggle Humbled by the serenity within us Listening to the racing of our heartbeats The sputtering of warm breaths Hoping that it would last forever Only to end as soon as it started

PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS

Image
Everything about you Is just so fine You make all else  Appear in a wrong context You are the milky moon Reflecting sunshine Into every day of my life You make my sorrows so pale That drop of turpentine That makes my colours So bright You are a melody That delightful tune Playing endlessly on my mind A fetish so addictive  My guilty pleasure My favorite drug A pinnacle of inner strength My only ever wish If you only had the power To see you through me The adorability I hold for you That deep feeling  Of sheer unconditional love

KAMIKAZE

Image
You are too intoxicated By the allure Of self-graciousness All the compliments Both true and untrue The myriad anecdotes That I whispered  Into your corked ear You let them ride Up the elevator  To that place in your head Putting you in earnest On that A team While you resided Comfortably on that reverie Basking ignorantly In the light of a day-dream Standing blameless On that magnificent pedestal Using it as a scope To look down on me While you forget the power Of invincible inner beauty A gem An invaluable treasure Letting beauty destroy you In the footsteps of Cleopatra

WRITINGS ON THE WALL

Image
The music we used to play  Became a silent somber tune That lost its rhythmic flow  The wind of passion That made our hair stand Has become a still storm And has stopped to blow The ray of light that shined on us  Lost its imminent luster Reduced to a dim and gay glow We cultivated a tree of life Hoping it would be evergreen Growing besides a stream of love Now it does not grow We were once a great team Formidable and invincible  Now it does not seem so We stood strong and upright Against the wind of temptation Now we sigh and bow Lost in obscurity and oblivion.

SEEYIAN'S MELODY

Image
The clefts in her voice box Break free all locks Unclasping every single chain That hold me away She sings so perfect Wave after wave Tune by tune With makebian fluency She keeps me drowning Lost in constant thought That lethargic feeling As I flow with her current Bathing in the amazement Of her pearls of joy Destroying Those walls of solitude Bringing down with it Its hedges of confinement Her voice flowing Eyes dilating She sets the stage Opens the act An electric solo performance

OLOPITO REVISITED

Image
Back then in the days Our sunrise days When mornings were bright When hope sparkled In an orange haze Back then in the days When we woke to the bellows  To the smell of fresh dung The snort of price steers Blowing in the frigid air Back then in the days When the cold July air Bit into our nudity When dew numbed our bare feet Paralyzing our whole Back then in the days When rain came down Like a constant visitor Early at dawn To wash away the past Back then in the days  When we made manyattas Herding the water beetles On our bare bottoms On the red mud Back then in the days  When we clung to the cloth As we sung in symphony To the song of the calves In musical tandem Back then in the days When we climbed the Osokonoi tree Throwing caution to the wind Delving in debauchery Shuddering at its bitter-sweet Back then in the days Those great golden dawns So gone an era Those sunrise days Playing by the black waters Back then in the days Our sunrise days Nostalgia reigns For those...

AM WRITING AN ELEGY BY THE RIVER SIYAPEI

Image
Words, thoughts and reflections A mouthful of pleasurable rhetoric A novella maybe A novel or sequel to one in print A single character play An amazing piece of oratory flow Being Cicero for a minute Or play mark Anthony Seducing Cleopatra to his fold Compose a musical Make Beethoven look honourably amateur Tattoo it on my left rib  In permanent ink None is endearing enough But poetry! Yes, a piece of my mind In poetic prose Stanzas of pain Pleasure and nostalgia Lines overflowing with admiration Adoration and appreciation Be Maya Angelou for a minute or two Building an invincible monument A solid reminder of who you were Who you are and always will be Build a terraced Chinese wall Inside my heart Complete with wonders The hanging gardens of Babylon And plant flowers on top Bright daffodils Or the blue forget-me-nots That remind me of irkinye With every blossom The scent of its graceful petals Or taste the nectar beneath the beauty Just to remind my taste buds The taste of true swe...

DAUGHTER OF MY PEOPLE

Image
Celebrations Cries of mock glee The womenfolk in ecstasy Shrills of hidden pain Utter disgust Concealed with laughter and song Caked with disguised smiles Away from brutal reality Of lost forgotten liberty Lost freedom Lost independence Born to the world Welcomed with heavy sighs Full of untold grief Curved furrows of guilt The midwife Her rugged concerned face Folded like the hills Full of lament A new candidate For them to castigate For him to torment A rose To sprout amongst thorns A victim of destiny A convict of fate Incarcerated by culture Chosen for condemnation Melting receding hope Thin as the calico sheet That covers her chocolate skin To acquire the magic She is denied Belonging to the hearth Caked with soot Cologned with smoke The slender back curved Breaking From the bulk of emotion Perpetual tears From the wells of her soul Those echoes of torment Beaten to pulp By the superiority The attitude of a stricter complex The knife...
